Oakley is a modest-sized California city of about 26,000 people located on the eastern outskirts of the San Francisco Bay Area in what is referred to as the Delta region. Like many growing suburban communities, Oakley is a town looking for an identity as it struggles to balance its rural past with its present-day needs and its vision of the future.
This Web site began with a simple mission: to provide its users with general information about the community and to offer a sample of the local color that those who live here can experience on a daily basis. Whether you are planning a visit, relocating here from elsewhere, or just wanted to know a little more about the community you already live in, this site is designed for you.
As our name Oakley.now states, here you will find current (generally) information about Oakley's past, present and points of interest. Hopefully you will be entertained along the way as well.
What will you find at Oakley.now? For starters, there is a photo gallery featuring some of the local sights and highlights from some of our annual celebrations. One of your hosts, Roni Gehlke, writes a weekly column for the local newspaper called "Our Back Yard," which is archived here periodically, generally every 6-8 weeks. There is a lengthy history on the town, directions on how to get here, demographics, and the ever-popular list of 101 things to do in Oakley just in case you run out of ideas. For those wishing additional information on the community we have also provided links to other sites that may be of use.
And now for the disclaimer...

Phew! Glad that's out of the way. And now we know what you are probably thinking: "Who are these folks that put together this wonderful site and what credentials could they possibly have to qualify them as fonts of knowledge about Oakley, California?" Fair enough.
